The Sediment Task Force, the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions, New WAter Ways and Stormwater WA are delighted to invite you to attend the Local Government Sediment Forum, hosted by the City of Kwinana.
When: 9am – 1.00pm, Wednesday 24 April 2024
Where: Ken Jackman Hall, 2 Robbos Way, Kwinana Town Centre (Ground Floor of the Darius Wells Library and Resource Centre)
Cost: Free but registration is essential for catering purposes as morning tea and a light lunch will be provided from 1-1.30pm.
Local Government plays an important role in ensuring land development does not result in sand drift and sediment run-off. This Forum aims to bring together local examples and learnings from across the country to support a discussion on how to improve sediment management practices and outcomes in WA.

WALGA’s Erosion and Sediment Control Guidelines for Local Government will also be launched at the Forum. These new guidelines provide information on the role of Local Government in managing sediment loss during building and development.
This Forum is aimed at planners, engineers, compliance, environment, environmental health and asset management people in Local Government and across industry.

Stormwater Western Australia, the Institute of Public Works Engineering Australia (WA) and Engineers Australia, Hydrology and Water Resources Panel have launched the Code of Practice for urban and peri-urban drainage modelling in Western Australia.
In early 2020, key stakeholders and urban drainage practitioners in WA recommended the formation of a partnership to “prepare a ‘code of practice’ or guideline which describes the process for model build, verification and reporting. The document should include guidance for different scales, planning decisions and risk, and support generation of local knowledge and improved maintenance. If possible, it should state conditions of importance for the Swan Coastal Plain and document ways to calibrate and sense-check the model. Development of the code of practice to be led jointly by SWA, Engineers Australia and IPWEA, with input from DPLH, Water Corporation, AWA, DWER, WALGA & UDIA.”
Key agencies and local governments contributed some funding and in 2022, work commenced to draft the Code of Practice in partnership with stakeholders and industry. This event is to launch the Code of Practice for urban and peri-urban drainage modelling in Western Australia, which has been endorsed jointly by Stormwater Western Australia, the Institute of Public Works Engineering Australia (WA) and Engineers Australia, Hydrology and Water Resources Panel.
